Anyone done a self-tour to the Belize Zoo?

Not really interested in a private tour with any of the tour operators, we are just thinking of catching a taxi or whatever to see the zoo. How far is it from where the tenders dock? Any recommendations? Care to share your experience?

The zoo is about 30 miles from the port.  I have thought of going but have not been there so can't give any advice on it otherwise.

I'm thinking of doing this in a couple of weeks. Might try and get a taxi.

You might want to look at hiring a private tour guide like KingDavid or Viator.  Belize Taxi rates are around US$130 to go 30 miles one way. Plus it's US$15 per person to enter the zoo.
