Rare cruisemom42 Posted September 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Can you be more specific about what you're looking for? By "seniors" are you suggesting you have limited mobility, or....? Most people get from Rome to Civi using one of three ways: -- Transfer by bus offered by cruise line (usually those flying in "day of" or using cruise line package -- Taking the train from central Rome to Civitavecchia train station, then 1-2 bus transfers to ship -- Private transfer by car or mini-van. A car transfer for two people is from 120-150 euro, depending on company
lawk Posted September 13, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted September 13, 2022 Not limited mobility but do not want to carry luggage up and down stairs.
Markanddonna Posted September 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2022 I've been searching using the same line of thinking: stairs/luggage. Some of the train stations either don't have a lift or their lift is known to often not work. I'd appreciate advice from someone who has left from the San Pietro Station. Only travelled from central Rome and think the stations will be identical. Book one’s sets in advance. For Civi look for front of train. Taxi from Hotel to Station There are no baggage handlers at Rome station. There are steep steps to board the train, handling luggage is not easy Limited luggage space overhead and In aisles Luggage storage could be a distance from one’s seats, not protected and there have been instances of theft. Argue with the moron/s sitting in one’s reserved seats to move. ……. At Civi Again steep steps to alight with luggage. Civi station has no baggage handlers. There are two sets of steep and long stairs, plus an underpass and two platforms, a ticket area and a 20/30 yard outside walk to cab rank to negotiate. Cab to Ship. Don’t bother, too much angst to travel by train, take a car Hotel to Ship Do the Math…. Cab Hotel/Rom Station €20 Train Fare including reservations, say €15 pp Cab Civi/Ship, say €25 Car Hotel/Ship, as kindly supplied by CM €120/150 A no brainer! As of this year, Civi has elevators so at least one doesn't have to go down and up the stairs to cross under the tracks. However, I do agree with you that the train is a bit of a hassle. Not because of the train itself but the several transfers of luggage is not fun for those not traveling relatively light.
Ine Posted September 14, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Contact this company. They also offer shared transportation. Our ride from a Rome airport hotel (pick up at the hotel) to Civitacchia port is just E. 69,- for 2 persons! Probably more or less the same price from the airport. www.romefiumicinotransfer.com
CRUIS4ME Posted September 17, 2022 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2022 We used Rome Cabs to pick us up at FCO and drive us to Civi. They were on time, sign with our name, helped tow our luggage to van, and drove us right to the steps of our hotel…Museum Guest House. We spent two nights there since we needed the antigen test which was easy to get done. Took a cab from guest house to ship so no schlepping of bags. Do you think it is feasible to get the antigen test done on a Monday morning and board the ship around noon?
Markanddonna Posted September 18, 2022 #12 Share Posted September 18, 2022 Like Cruise4ME, we had booked Museum Guest House, but unfortunately had to cancel. They seemed like a very good choice.
