Gamecock_Cruiser Posted September 19, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2022 We haven't cruised out of Jacksonville in almost 10 years. How long after setting sail before the casino opens? I know it is longer than most ports due to having to travel down the river, but don't remember how long.
Rare vadersprincess12 Posted September 19, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2022 I can't answer that specifically, but we sail from Baltimore and have the 8 hour trip down the Chesapeake Bay, but because you really can't go anywhere else to get to the open international waters, the casinos open about 45 minutes after sail away once we pass the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Hope it's similar for you.
thethirdhalf Posted September 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2022 If I'm remembering correctly when I sailed in July it was about 2 hours 15 minutes after we sailed from Jacksonville.

I have never understood what the casino opening rules are. We are on the second leg of a HAL B2B up in Alaska now, and for the next four days the ship will never leave Alaska waters or be more than a couple of miles from land that belongs to the state of Alaska. Yet the casino will open between 30 and 45 minutes after departure from Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan.
mondello Posted September 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2022 States that have land-based casinos probably don’t want/allow the competition.
elklemi Posted September 20, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2022 In May I sailed out of Jax and made notice of the time to get out in the Ocean and it took 1 hour 45 minutes, not sure when the casino opened but the time mentioned by thethirdhalf seems reasonable, good luck and enjoy your cruise. But once everyone is onboard (and usually it's at least 30 minutes) before the ship sails, there is no competition with land-based casinos because you cannot get on or off the ship at that point. mondello Posted September 25, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) I’ve been cruising on comped casino fares, 3 since the restart and Celebration booked for Christmas. Our last one was Valor B2B. We meandered down the river from New Orleans for hours but, I honestly have no idea when the casino opened. Guess I indulge my vices late at night. I was on the Triumph in February 2019. Casino was open immediately after the muster drill. Louisiana would allow casinos to operate anywhere a vessel could float.
