Thanks Last time we were in Gisborne, we just caught the shuttle from the tender jetty into town and wandered around, There was a market set up with stalls selling souvenirs, including jewellery made from pounamu (greenstone) and there were Maori cultural dance sessions. There is a nice walking path through the park along the river on the town side. None of the excursions really interested us too much. We were back on board for a late lunch. The tenders dock at a wharf in the marina up from the mouth of the Waimata River on the opposite side from the town centre. There were shuttles from the wharf to the town. It is the only "new" port on the HAL cruise we are repeating again this year, so I have it easy in the research department :) Your info last year was excellent and really appreciated.
sailingkiwi Posted March 7 #7 Share Posted March 7 There are some great wines made in the Gisborne area, which is where I would head - maybe for lunch.

Travrat Posted March 16 #9 Share Posted March 16 If you want a nice personal winery visit contact Geoff Wright the owner of a small boutique winery. He picked us up at the tender wharf and gave us a short tour in Gisborne then brought us out to his place for a lovely tasting and cheese plate. Very enjoyable. geoff@wrightswines.co.nz
