Speciality Dining Dress Code

They were certainly enforcing it on Harmony last month in 150 Central Park.  My adult children had on pleated golf shorts/polos/loafers.  The person at the podium whispered to our genie to ask the children to go change into long pants. I am not sure if she was more emboldened to ask the genie to be the bad guy to enforce the dress code or if she enforced it with everyone. I would guess the latter as I looked around and everybody had long pants on.  Needless to say, the 20 year olds never showed up at specialty dining in shorts for the rest of the cruise

🙂

What is a genie?!  I'm so confused, lol, and it sounds like you have your own personal one?

What they mentioned above. We got to try one out due to great covid pricing back in November 2020 and lots of FCCs 🙂

I only mentioned our genie because it did make me wonder if the lady at the podium felt more comfortable telling our genie to tell us. It did cross my mind at the time whether she would have had the guts to ask us to change herself rather than passing the buck to the genie.

While I am routinely and normally a very casual dresser, I often wear clean jeans (without any holes, rips, or tears in them) to church, I can appreciate dressing up to enhance the specialty restaurant experience.  My wife is from South America and her family was much more formal than mine.  So, I try to make an effort to make her experiences on cruises as positive as I can...happy wife, very happy husband!  I have no issue with wearing dress slacks and a nice Polo or button down shirt for some of the more "classy" joints on a ship, but more often I'll wear dress shorts and a Polo with shoes, not sandals.

Only once did I wear a suit, that was on our very first cruise with my Mom and Dad; I'm glad I did because we have some nice pictures of the family dressed up.  Second cruise, I took a suit jacket and tie, but I don't think I ever used them.  Now I don't even pack them; just pack nice shirts, dressy shorts, and maybe a pair or two of dress slacks.

Bottom line for me is live and let live.  I'd much rather have a group of folks dressed in shorts, t-shirts , and flip-flops who act with proper decorum than someone dressed to the Ts who is loud and obnoxious and discourteous.  The former doesn't impinge upon our experience, the latter most definitely does.

Why do people actually ask this question still?  As an adult, I will wear adult clothes and not shorts, t-shirt and baseball cap.  Does not matter if in the Caribbean, or in Europe.

Why do people like you still respond to threads like this?

I dont buy blue jeans anymore . I only buy black jeans and they look more dressier , so you can enter any venue and still have less clothes to bring.

I wore black jeans with a black blazer previously , and it looked like a suit.

I dont bring the blazer any more though.

I have a pair of khaki colored pants that are somewhere in between jeans and pants (lightweight but styled more like jeans so great for both Florida and cruising). Those have become my go to night time cruising pants as someone who never ever dresses up.

Because this is a discussion, and I have an opinion?  Aren't opinions two sided?  Or is that not allowed? Isn't that an issue now that an opinion that does not line with one's own opinion, is not valid?  So, I have an opinion, and I state it, whether you like it or not.

In many tropical destinations (as well as the SW USA) dress shorts and a polo are perfectly acceptable “adult” clothes and perfectly acceptable for “upscale” dining (not to say cruise line dining is upscale)

I wear dockers or nice dress shorts and either a polo or button up shirt.

Recently I had a wardrobe malfunction where a newly purchased shirt shrunk dramatically after its initial wash.  I didn't find out until dressing for Chops.  Arrived VERY casual, apologized and was not a problem being seated.

i am confused. So it’s okay for you to share your opinion but it’s not okay for the OP to ask a question???

EDIT…I should have read the rest of this thread before posting my comment, when others already posted similar comments.

I think it is a good question to get the latest update/feedback from people who have cruised recently. I have been on 14 RCI cruises post-COVID and bought the UDP for the majority of these cruises. I have not noticed any difference in how people dress whether they are going to the MDR or a speciality restaurant. From my experience the way people dress on RCI has gotten a lot more casual over the years. People wearing shorts in the MDR and speciality restaurants is very common these days.

There were only a handful of children in the specialty dining restaurants on our cruise.  If there was a crying baby, I'm not sure what my response would have been. In fact on our whole cruise, there weren't a ton of kids.

I personally don't care what people wear.  We wear what we want, and others can wear what they want.

Oddly, every restaurant we went to, the same father and son from Chile went to.  The teenager didn't wear shorts, but he wore jeans and a t-shirt every night.  The adult men seemed to be more liberal with "dress code" 🙂

aw yes men will balk more on dressing up with a tie as they feel they are on vacation.

Women mostly like getting dressed up.  Kids not so much unless it is a cute mommy and me dress.

Still overall, I do not want to see men's kneecaps in the evening.  oh well just me
