CAS experts help needed - CAS questions on getting comped a room

I have booked through CAS several times and was always given a comp for a inside or ocean cabin which I would upgrade to a suite.  The last cruise we were on (December 2021) I gambled quite a bit more than I usually do and I found out that I had earned a Sapphire status.  Recently I found a cruise sailing from Sydney to the South Pacific – Fiji, Moorea, French Polynesia, Tahiti and I just couldn’t pass it up so I put a hold on it and would call CAS the next day to see what they could do for me.  When I called they said that they couldn’t give me any comp as it was more than 18 months out since my last cruise which I was unhappy but understood that is there policy. 

 

A couple days later I decided to look and see what other cruises I could go on in the meantime.  While knowing that I would go to the casino and could rack up some points that might help to get me something for SP cruise.  I found one going out of NY to Caribbean and again put a hold on it and would call the next day.  When I did I was told again that I couldn’t be given a comp so I asked why that is as it’s within the 18 month period.  He told me that because I had booked the last suite in that category and the sailing was selling well that they couldn’t give me anything.  The thing is that just before I called him and there was another suite within the category but the price had gone up.

 

So, I just wanted to check with all of you if this seems like the truth about what I am being told (mostly about the Caribbean cruise).  Should I call back and try to talk to someone else or is that truly the case that I wouldn’t get any comp?

I am not Tia but i can provide some insight.


1) Actually it is THEIR policy.
2) Points for CAS reset each year.  The annual tier evaluation period is April 1 - March 31.  If you have no activity in that time frame you have no CAS status.

Call back and speak to a diff rep 

 

Ive had some CAS reps try and tell me i only could get a comped interior or ocean view but i knew based on my gambling i “should” at least qualify for a comp balcony 

 

Called back the next day and Boom that rep comped me my balcony no problem 

 

Going on 6+ straight years of cruising w NCL through CAS comps and we take 2-3 cruises per year……Everyone’s been a comped balcony

I wouldn't suppose you'd be kind enough to tell me roughly how many dollars of gambling per cruise it takes to get that? It would be much appreciated. I'm having issues with them not recording all my play which is not helping.

I can provide a little more Information on the topic….

 

The 18 month timeframe is the general timeframe they can look back and pull an offer you earned from a prior cruise. For example, when we sailed back in 2019, I earned a free cruise certificate. When I called to book a cruise last month, they said I didn’t have any offers since I haven’t recorded any activity in a while. However, that does mean that the CAS rep couldn’t look back at my play and extend me some type of comp room to get me back in the ship, which they did. So, as far as an offer goes I would call back and speak with someone else.

 

With regards to the No offer cause the cruise is filling up, I’ve never heard that before. We’ve booked the last day haven room multiple times and didn’t have any problem getting an offer. I’d call back and ask them to look at your history and please make you an offer.

Aside from the pandemic, when a lot of the rules were understandably waived, I've never gone 18 months without booking something so I can't speak to that piece.

 

You're rated on two things:  Actual loss, which is pretty straightforward, and imputed loss.  In other words, on average, how much you "should" lose playing that average amount at that game for the time you played.  You get less imputed benefit from playing tables than you would by playing slots because the odds are better on most table games.  So if you lost your $5000 within a few hours on the prior cruise and stopped playing, your imputed loss wouldn't qualify you for much but your actual loss probably would.  

 

What you get also depends on the value of the cruise.  I only qualified for an inside when I sailed the Mediterranean in season but probably would have gotten a club or at least balcony on a Caribbean run.  That would also impact the cost of upgrading.  

 

Calling back and speaking to another agent might work.  Also, sometimes you can get a certificate from a land based casino which will get you on the ship relatively inexpensively.
