HakunaMatada Posted October 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Last few cruises, the program was great. This last cruise on mardi gras in sept, it sucked. hardly ever got a good buz even after drinking all day, heck we did a catameran where they had rum punch and we was really feeling good, when we got back on the boat we had 3 MORE cocktails and sobered up! Are they now pooring the drinks half the alcohol?
FlaMommy75 Posted October 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2022 I think it depends where you are getting your drinks. A lot of the Carnival mixed and frozen drinks are pre-made and way more sugar than alcohol. My husband and I tend to stick getting our drinks either from the Alchemy or ordering bourbon/whiskey from Pig and Anchor an/or the Steakhouse bar.
ray98 Posted October 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Carnival and the cruise industry in general all have numerous drink recipes that are heavy on multi ingredient mixes, especially the frozen versions. If you stick with the classic recipes you will know exactly what your drink has in it.
Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted October 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Beer is predictable as well as shots and martinis. They can’t really short you on alcohol with those type drinks. Long Island teas are also almost all alcohol.

Indeed, watch them make it and you'll know or stick to bottled items that are fixed, beers or wine/champagne/sparkling wine . Kellyann Posted October 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2022 I just got off the Legend and commented to my partner that I never even got a buzz on. I'm a light drinker ordinarily and the Cheers Package was a bonus at the time I booked. I was drinking at least 6 drinks a day so I came to consider that the drinks were watered down. Some times I just got a Ginger Ale and Vodka and still never felt a little bit drunk. Had a blast anyway and enjoyed every second.
Woody14 Posted October 14, 2022 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2022 when I was on the panorama I was ordering the same drink from the pool bar, bar on deck 3 and blue iguana all were quite different. Pool bar was by far the weakest defininatley more premixed.
silvercrikhix Posted October 14, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2022 This is disturbing. Anybody else ever have an occasion when you drink for hours and nothing happens? DH and I and some friends have had that happen a couple of times in our life, but a whole cruise? Naw. We have cheers next month and we’ll be watching how our drinks get made when possible. mz-s Posted October 14, 2022 #9 Share Posted October 14, 2022 My last cruise on Sunshine, I got a lot of drinks from the Casino bar and I felt like they were fairly weak. Granted I was not at the bar, I was at the Fun 21 table, so I couldn't watch them make them.
Joebucks Posted October 14, 2022 #10 Share Posted October 14, 2022 One of many reasons to stay away from drink packages and AIs. While people obsess over "free, unlimited, and included" drinks most don't realize how weak the pours are. The staff are almost always taught to control their pours to watch costs. Drinking infinite sugars and little alcohol is not getting your monies' worth, no matter how much you think you broke the system. I stick to the in room bottle and ensure my pour is heavy.
ray98 Posted October 14, 2022 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2022 The menu of drinks vary from strong tasting cocktails to fruity foo-foo drinks for people who don't want to taste the alcohol. The content difference between drinking a Martini or a Long Island and a Kiss on the Lips are not even comparable, their taste profile is also at other ends of the spectrum. You can't have it both ways in my opinion, if you are drinking something 'tropical' with 3 juice mixes and a shot of grenadine then you are not getting that much liquor in it. You want something that hits hard then you probably want a recipe that makes you make a face on the first sip....lol.
Prismism Posted October 15, 2022 #12 Share Posted October 15, 2022 This isn't strictly a cruise ship issue. Order any premixed libation from a bar where they often serve fruity concoctions and you're likely to get hosed. Think of the those giant yard sized drinks people ofte buy in New Orleans/Vegas/pro sports venues... they all contain very little alcohol compared to the large amounts of frozen slushy you get. If you can't get a buzz off of 15 alcoholic beverages per day then I would consider that user error. Avoid the frilly drinks and order actual coctails. Or drink whiskey neat/whiskey coke.
southbayer Posted October 15, 2022 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2022 I usually cause of my CHEERS Package get my frozen drink, and wait the 5 min, and get a floater to pour in... I'll never drink 15 drinks in a day anyway, so i don't consider the floater a lost drink #
