Disney - dress up optional too! They don’t even try to put on airs about cruise elegant or formal nights. The only place you have to dress up is their speciality restaurants.

It was more $ than a Carnival cruise - yes. But not all the money in the world. But I never smelled pot, never saw a fight, there was never even a line at guest services because there was nothing to complain about! No bacon police, I didn’t have to sign out towels (they were just laying on loungers for anybody to use!). No chair hogs - considerate fellow guests! I could not go on 5 Disney cruises a year but I will definitely cruise them more than Carnival moving forward!

Each to their own!

I agree with most of this.... except we did encounter chair hogs on our disney cruise.

Another plus (for us): no casino and no casino smoke.

However, Disney has a lot less variety of activities than Carnival.  We got great use of our unlimited photo package because we had the time to stand in a bunch of lines to get pictures with characters.  Carnival

Our kids like camp ocean much more than the Disney kids club, such was more high tech playground than day camp.

So, yes... if you cruse for food and relaxation,  Disney may be worth the additional cost.

To bring this back on topic... Carnival could spend money to bring up the level of service (which would require higher fares). Disney clearly proves this to be true.

However, there is one other huge difference. Carnival has a ton of more cabins to fill. To sell all those cabins they need a lower price point. I don't think disney could fill 24 ships at their price.

Carnivals decision to focus on their strengths... activities... and save money on food, is probably the right decision.

Like everything, though, there has to be a balance.  If they cut and skimp too much, we'll move on as well, as well many others.

It was never due to covid. Carnival reduced the bacon long before Covid started. The amount of bacon consumed and or wasted on the ship was extremely expensive for the bottom line so they at first made it where someone handed you bacon then made it every other day. But it's a mute point because you can get it in an omelet everyday or in the dining room every day. It's a really over blown thing TBH (on CC comments not by Carnival)

I don't find it overblown at all. I find it sad. I get a fresh omelet everyday and many days they don't have bacon there either. Or they give you a little spoonful in your omelet and none available for your plate. I find that bacon is not the only food wasted on cruise ships but others don't limit the days or amounts. I agree that they did start that practice before covid but back a few years ago bacon was nowhere near as expensive as it is now.

Indeed! I quit buying bacon during the pandemic for well over a year because the price was ridiculous. When I found a good price I bought 40+ lbs and started enjoying it again. There is a value I place on it and when the price exceeds that value it looks much better on the shelf than in my cart. I also feel that this situation is overblown, the bacon on Carnival is good but certainly not great, never has been, I much prefer my home method of cooking it and certain brands/cuts. There is still plenty of mediocre bacon on the ships, I just don't see what the big deal is if one can't eat a half tray of mediocre bacon lol; and believe me I've seen folks do just that. On our cruise before last in fact, some slob reached around the sneeze guard and commandeered the tongs and started emptying out the bacon his and his posse's plates. I saw this same uncouth behavior from the same fella with shrimp one night as well. This is why we can't have nice things.

They’re rationing out shrimp now? Where does it end? They might as well just go to cafeteria style and have the crew serve guests at this point.

They were doing that. I just happen to run in to this same fella twice, after I got a few strips of bacon and after I got a scoop of shrimp. I noticed the staff moved the items back off to the side and dude comes and reaches around to pull the trays back and starts piling it on lol. No wonder they do this with some items, some folks are just inconsiderate and uncouth. I could easily eat the whole pan of shrimp myself (big seafood fan) but that is not the right thing to do. I've also watched folks pick out all the meat and seafood from the jambalaya on the last cruise. Maybe they need to switch it up like the two popular buffets in Vegas and have some items dished out in individual servings? Then again, some would probably just take them all anyway. Not sure what the solution is besides letting it ride and just raising prices to match/offset the increased cost. Spread over all the passengers it can't be that much and would probably be less of a headache and PR problem.

I'd actually prefer if the crew served at the buffet.  The line would move more quickly (assuming enough staffing), it'd be less messy, and it'd be easier for parents to manage their kids getting food.

If the guest just wanted the meat and not the rice from the jambalaya, I see that as less waste personally.

I don’t eat nasty dried out chafing dish buffet rice either.

I've seen a spread like this (minus the crab)...but not every day. What line is this? Sounds like I need to become a customer of that line...unless they make me put pants, sneakers and button down shirts on. I'm a t-shirt, flippie floppie, shorts kinda guy whilst on vaca!

I did too but it was about 15 years ago.

It was an eye opening experience for me to say the least. One thing I left that cruise saying to myself is - Disney is not satisfied with “good enough”. You get what you pay for.

😃

And if you want to pay an extra $150/day to have a few shrimp and crab legs on your cruise, that's your call.

Personally, I can get those at my local Costco, so I would rather take 3-4 Carnival cruises for the same amount of money.  😃
