We have a Princess cruise starting in Southampton and will probably travel to port on sail day. is there a convenient place to buy wine near the pier?

There is an ASDA (Walmart) supermarket very close to the port:
If you travel my National Express bus it also terminates close to the train station I marked.

It's going to depend on your transport to Southampton and your cruise terminal.

If you are taking ship's transfer bus from LHR or LGW you'll not be able to stop en-route.

So check out M&S Food at LHR in the Arrivals Halls of T2,3 and 5 (I'm not aware of an outlet at T4). Or for LGW,  M&S in Arrivals Hall (North Terminal only).

If your cruise terminal is Mayflower it wont be worth a taxi out of the port & back again. If your cruise terminal is Ocean, its a 10-minute walk to a Tesco Express in Ocean Village or 10 minutes in the opposite direction to a Co-operative food shop in High Street. Range will be a little limited in both.

If you arrive by train, Majestic Wine Warehouse is across the road from  the nearest station exit. This is a specialist wine store, wide range, knowledgeable staff, price range from very reasonable to serious money. Taxi rank at the station.

If you arrive by Nat Express bus, there's a large ASDA  grocery store with a good selection opposite the Nat Express coach station. But it's a little complicated - you access  it via the white portico of the multi-story carpark on the other side of the road, and the elevator to up to the walkway to the store's rear entrance (ASDA floor is indicated on the elevator buttons).Get the coach station staff or a local to point you in the right direction. Because you'll have luggage it might be easier for one of you to stay with the luggage while the other goes for wine.

Or the Majestic Wine Warehouse is opposite the train station, only a 6-mnute walk

Taxi ranks at coach station and train station.

If you arrive by car you have other options too.

If your driver is local he'll know the places.

If your driver is based in London & doesn't know Southampton it might be easier for him to peel off the M3 motorway at Junction 9 for Winchester. Third exit off the motorway roundabout (signed Winnall Trading Estate) and almost immediately left into the large Tesco Extra grocery superstore alongside the motorway.

Same way back onto the motorway
