I keep mine on cellular until about 2 miles out.  I set my alarm to remind myself to change to airplane mode.  
 

I’m not sure if it has to be in airplane mode to use the hub app, but it’s possible.

That's how to connect to the HUB App and select an internet plan.  I suspect the OP just wants to get the HUB App going so they can look at activities, look at menus, etc.

 

So OP, make sure your app is installed and logged in before you board, then do the above once onboard but stop after step 2 if that is all you want.
