We are thinking of booking a  Panama Canal Cruise  on  a HAL ship  during our upcoming  Dec 10th cruise aboard  Kpningsdam   . These are my questions :

1. what is the benefit with regards to a HAL   on board credit  ,also do you get more On board credit if you book a cruise within 90  days if the initial listing by HAL ?

2  ,Can we buy the gift cards  for $500  on the ship to get the 10 % bonus to $550 per gift card  .If so we could then use the   gift cards for  our deposits .We understand the  gift cards are out until Dec 13 ,2022

TIA

1. Deposits are usually less when booking onboard and OBC is usually more (barring any sale program that might come up later). Booking cruises within 90 days of offering will get you bonus OBC depending on Mariner level

2. Deposits usually ($100) need to be paid with credit card. At least FCC cannot be used for deposit so just assuming credit from a gift card (have not used them) is same but check with HAL. Future deposits booked are usually good for 4 years toward a cruise. So HAL can hold your money longer if you want. 🤔

The deposits are much lower and refundable.  From recall:  $100 for 7 days and under put to $300 for over 21 days. If you are eligible for the early booking bonus you will get it.  They claim they are able to offer “hidden” cabin inventory.🤷‍♀️

you can buy gift cards online and use them but as stated above credit card must be used for the Future Cruise Deposit.

Good to know. Can you transfer your booking to your own travel agent?

When you book make sure to tell them which TA you want to use, otherwise it defaults to the last one used on current cruise. You can also choose not designate a TA but transfer within specific time after disembarkment. Otherwise trying to change TA requires a release from the booked TA and acceptance from new TA.
