Is it normal to still be getting emails about upgrading the day before the cruise? If not I wonder if I would be able to get an upgrade tomorrow for cheaper or free?

Very unlikely, though you could ask on board - getting Royal Up emails, at any time, is not unusual.

We had one successful upgrade within 48 hours of sailing, and one three hours after we sailed (found out on board). Doesn't cost anything to bid, and you'll never know if it worked if you don't give it a shot.
