JOPA28 Posted December 14, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2022 Good day, Was wondering if there is any word about a change in itinerary due to the current unrest in Peru. We are scheduled to embark next Wednesday. Many thanks.
Stumblefoot Posted December 15, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2022 Word from those on board the Moon late tonight is SS still plans to disembark and embark in Lima. The next voyage is sold out, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn if some cancellations have come in since the declaration of a nationwide state of emergency. claudiaYVR Posted December 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2022 Nothing yet. Waiting for an announcement of some kind but we have made plans to disembark in Guayaquil instead of Lima. We had planned on spending three days post cruise in Lima but we don’t want to spend days potentially confined to a hotel and risk violence escalation in Lima. It’s just too volatile right now. We’re erring on the side of caution as we want to be home for Christmas.

Thanks for the update, we are joining in Lima - cancelled our Machu Picchu trip with the closure of the airport and train service.

Our excursions were canceled there last month due to the ongoing cartel violence. We had police escorts at our other stop Ecuador.

That would invalidate many insurance policies. Worrying indeed. I know when we were in Ecuador in January, guests in Guayaquil were not allowed off the ship alone and any tour or airport transfer was via a military style escort and no one allowed to get off the coach on route. Obviously this was for Covid, so a minor inconvenience in comparison. Not quite sure I’d be as easy if I thought there were cartel members on the lose with guns who might fancy a few pop shots at the gringos! Lima was taken off our menu because of Covid and whilst outside of SS control, it’s still a little ironic that Lima is ok under these circumstances. We were meant to have an overnight in Lima and the prospect of not being able to get off the ship for this would question why the hell would I want to be there. Luckily (a strange word to chose) we disembarked in the end in Valparaiso and not the original schedule Lima or revised schedule Guayaquil. SS obviously doesn’t want to cancel as it would have to issue refunds… but guests cancelling are probably out of luck as far as their insurance policies are concerned. The world has gone mad. Even more so than 2020.
claudiaYVR Posted December 17, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 17, 2022 Well, we’re in Guayaquil and off the Moon now. Sad to miss the last few days as the ship is beautiful and we’ve had a great cruise. Still no word on whether the ship will make the scheduled stop in Salaverry on its way to Lima, in fact no communications on the situation in Peru at all. Kind of surreal to be making decisions in a total vacuum of guidance from the cruiseline. We wish everyone carrying on and those joining the ship in Lima an uneventful time.
