Questionable Reasonable for Norwegian Encore 1.8.2023 Itinerary Change

This evening NCL swaps Great Stirup Cay for Nassau, Bahamas two weeks ahead of departure, claiming "unforeseen port congestion".

Nothing unforeseen about this change.   NCL put the Prima (newest ship) there on the same day.

Prima (3900 people) + Encore (4900 people) = TOO MANY PEOPLE for the facility.

Absolutely nothing to do with unforeseen circumstances… Due to port congestion in Great Stirrup Cay)". Simple math and the outcome is always the same.  NCL devalued the cruise.

Considering if we stay the course with NCL/Haven for our  21 day Miami : Seattle cruise in 2024.  Uncomfortable spending that much money with a cruise partner we can’t trust  Clearly not an honest or forthright email from Katty Byrd

Sorry this is happening to you at this late date. Based on the number of posts I've seen regarding  "unforeseen port congestion", it sounds like it would be well to either make sure your trip insurance covers missed ports or sail another cruise line. Itineraries are always subject to change, but, in my experience, Norwegian Cruise Lines has a significantly higher level of "unforeseen port congestion" caused by its own fleet than other lines.

Part of the problem is that original encore itinerary had the ship calling on Great Stirup Cay on day 2. then they flipped the ports around and made Great Stirup Cay near the end of the cruise causing this conflict with the prima

One would have to be certain it covered missed ports for reasons like this (within the control of the cruise line), which I suspect is doubtful.  I’ve seen coverage for ports missed because of weather and other specific events beyond the control of the cruise line.

It is certainly unforeseen. They evaluated the actual loads and made a decisions. The Prima will have less than 3100 and the Encore will have less than 4000. Nothing that the island has not previously seen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I’m on the Feb 5 sailing. Originally we were to be at GSC on Monday (the only ship). In Sept (before final pymt) we were notified of a change in schedule: GSC will now be on Sat WITH Prima.

Why would NCL move us to a date with Prima already there?
