Marina Amazon - late

All I can say is "ship happens".  You can't expect the terminals to be everything you or Oceania want. If there are a few items missing, it may be because of logistics, health concerns or some political issues like in Brazil currently.  In our 30 Oceania cruises throughout the world, our experience is that they try their best .We were on Marina from the beginning of November to the first week of December.  The ship was in tip top condition and the staff, General Manager, Concierge, butlers, food, etc. were wonderful.  At the end of the cruise a passenger needed to get medical help ASAP.  Consequently the Captain announced we were going to sail at max speed and arrive in Miami shortly after midnight instead of 8 am. Emergency responders met the ship and transported the patient away in the middle of the night before our previously scheduled arrival time at 8 am in the morning.   Oceania cares about people an  they were not worried about additional port charges or fuel costs!

The disembarkation today was dreadful. Our cruise ship and 2 massive ships all emptying at the same time. Thousands and thousands going in the same terminal at Rio de Janeiro to collect luggage and herded together through a narrow gate.
The air con was really poor on board ship as previously said. Another cutback for the environment?
We will miss many members of staff from Marina who spoilt us.

And that bus trip from the ship to the Terminal with 80 year olds trying to struggle getting their carry-on's into the bus.  No one from Oceania helping. The zoo at the terminal we missed as my DW wanted to leave early.  My DW was not impressed with the cruise as she said the best part of the cruise was the disembarkation. Ouch.

Our cabin stewards and butler (Larson) are now good friends as they were the best we have had in a long time.  They did pamper us too.

Hope you had a good flight home.

Yes thank you Paul.

We too had a great butler and cabin staff were the best we have had too.
New staff amongst the ships crew did their best and achieved a lot.
But yes…. That disembarkation was very worrying. Unless you were there you cannot comment on the disorder. It was packed, Squashed and dangerous. You only have to see in the news the disaster that can happen when many people are herded from a large space into a small walkway. There were thousands, possibly up to 10 thousand in all from the 3 ships.

YIKES!!! This news about dangerous over crowding in the port at disembarkation, shortened port times, decline in food quality, and the poor A/C and overall maintenance of the ship is more than disturbing.

We have followed Janecambirdge for quite awhile and have sailed with Paul and Mindy so trust their opinions and observations. Not happy to hear what their experiences were on their latest cruise.

We are booked for 40 nights on Nautica in May and if we hadn't made Final Payment, we would cancel our booking based on their comments and of other pax on Marina and Regatta.

Having sailed on Nautica before (including with you and Steve), that ship is the best run of any Oceania ship.  It all comes down to the ships management.

I fault the Marina Master and the GM.  Neither was nowhere to be found.  None of the officers were friendly - like saying hello.  Neither matched our last two cruises on Seabourn or Regent where all the management would walk the ship regularly checking things out.  On Marina nothing.  Occasionally they would appear at barista -- but then to only to drink some coffee.

Nautica has done a recent refit so you should be good on the cosmetic aspects, which was lacking on Marina.

We received our new port call schedule yesterday for our Feb 27 Marina cruise. Some ports got extensive haircuts! Some untouched. Hoping the one hour cut in the Falklands doesn’t ruin our Volunteer Point tour!

The shortened ports is not acceptable, counter to O advertising they are a port intensive, itinerary based cruise line. More reasons not to book.

We saw the officers eating in The Terrace but as you said, no smiles or communication.I tried twice to see the GM, to no avail.Interrogation by Reception/concierge and excuses.

I have to say that we had a problem in 12009 regards aerobic room above us being opened from 6am and someone jogging on the spot and banging the weights down hard at 6.30 waking us up daily. The spa manager worked hard to find the problem and do something about it with success.

The deputy CD was very good and more fun than John the CD.
