ridgerunner51 Posted January 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2023 On our previous visits to Half Moon Cay, lounge chairs in the shade were plentiful immediately after going down the steps and turning left. Has that changed? I am looking at photos and videos and there seem to be clamshells where the loungers under the trees once were.
REOVA Posted January 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2023 The clamshells are lined up the back row of the beach (turn right off steps) with 2 loungers each. The open loungers fill the rows down to the beach. We booked a clamshell and people would pull loungers up the beach next to our loungers in the shade provided by our clamshell. 🤪 The trees shade the area early but by mid day, the sun is not shaded by the trees. You may be able to move some loungers up left if you get there early. With 2 ships in port, it gets crowded quick with loungers taken.
Rare LMaxwell Posted January 5, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2023 If you ain't there first, it's a difficult beach to find a shady spot on.
REOVA Posted January 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2023 And the clamshells booked up way before the cruise starts so pre-book if you want shade but also grab some extra loungers to put on right side (when facing water) of clam shell and you will have shade and open air if it gets hot inside shell. We walk to the 2nd lifeguard stand with space next to clamshell (for reason above) and closer to lunch bar b que pavilion.
iflyrc5 Posted January 5, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2023 If you keep walking to the right down the beach past the cabanas there are come trees about 100 feet back from the beach - you can pull a lounger up there.
Rare FlaMariner Posted January 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2023 We were in HMC in November.....We walked far down the beach and find plenty of lounge chairs and shady areas under the trees. Just an awesome day.....enjoy.
Rare POA1 Posted January 6, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2023 There's a fair amount of shade down by the Pirate Ship. It as has a bar and restrooms.
Infi Posted January 6, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2023 I always head past the villas and pirate ship. In addition to providing shade, it helps to avoid the hordes of people who tend to set up their beach gear on the stretch right after getting off the tender.

Lift up the back of the clamshell with rocks under the back corners and center support. The opening pulls the ocean breeze through the clamshell and it stays cool and fresh in there.

And there is a hammock (no surcharge!) in the shade down the beach (used it in November) if you are early (but do not tell anyone).
