“Back door” to Port Everglades berth #2?

Not sure what you are referring to - Eisenhower Blvd?  If so yes it is open and there is no security checkpoint before entry to terminals 2 and 4 and the Heron Garage.  More than a few years ago the security checkpoint was moved south of that on Eisenhower Blvd.  See the map on the Port Everglades website:  www.porteverglades.net.

I didn't try to walk to 17th street but it appeared that the whole back area is closed off since the cranes are constructing the new garage and room is limited. I doubt if they would let anyone enter the area since it's under major construction. 

You'll have to go all the way out to Eisenhower Blvd to get to 17 street. 

If I can find a photo from last week, I'll post it.

That area is going to be a new East Convention Center and a 29 story Omni hotel.  Full completion is projected (at this early date) to be late 2025. https://www.visitlauderdale.com/meetings-and-groups/venues/convention-center/

Looks like the area will be under construction for quite a while. It's hard to conceive that they have sufficient space to build all of that in such a small area.
