retird Posted January 9, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2023 The new promo offered by HAL is not exactly a deal. Last week I was looking at a repositioning through the Panama Canal cruise and a balcony was $3339. Canadian per person. When i received the promo email today, I checked the same cruise and the oceanview is $5124. Canadian and you get the balcony upgrade for the same not so good price of $5124. Surely their marketing dept. must know we are not that stupid.
KAKcruiser Posted January 9, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2023 It's very confusing because you have to book the HIA rate to get the free upgrade. And, even then it is only to an obstructed balcony.
Rare Colorado Klutch Posted January 9, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) Reminds me of the promotion Dunkin Doughnuts had years ago: "Buy any half dozen Dunkin Doughnuts at the regular dozen price and receive a second half dozen; free!". A lot of people ordered a dozen doughnuts and wondered why it was full price. The guy at the counter would open the box, point and say, "There's your free half dozen". This was met with much bewilderment. Edited January 9, 2023 by Colorado Klutch 2
mwj Posted January 9, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2023 It's a marketing gimmick to grab people's attention. There is nothing 'free' about it. 3
REOVA Posted January 9, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2023 HAL has been big on marketing the past year with very little new deals, if you look closer. And it's probably industry wide given where they need to be to survive.
KAKcruiser Posted January 9, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2023 They have given away so many cabins with casino deals and other offers that now they have to raise prices to make money.
mcrcruiser Posted January 10, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2023 If a cruise is not sold out & you can wait yo after final payment you may score a better deal than these advertised deals from HAL
Rare cbr663 Posted January 10, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Not surprising. HAL's current pricing models with Advantage Fare, HIA, and Cruise Only pricing is further complicated by whether or not you want to select your cabin in each of these categories. So 6 different fare possibilities that change with each promo. Even what is included in the HIA can change from one promo to another. One thing I have learned as most other cruisers know - nothing is free. You are paying for it somewhere.
