Flying into HOU- hotel near terminal or airport?

Hi! We are on Allure in March and we have never been to Texas. Interested in opinions on hotels near terminal vs HOU airport.

 

Only staying 1 night pre cruise so looking for place that is convenient with a decent restaurant- preferably local.

Depending on your arrival time; late - stay near airport and take cruise line transportation to port.

Very little near airport and not best area.

If early, use uber, lyft, saltwater moms or Galveston Limo to island.

Only two hotels downtown:  Harbor House and The Tremont.

Many hotels on Seawall Blvd.  The island is not that large (32 miles X 2 miles at widest)

FYI - HOU (Hobby Airport) is in an so-so to iffy neighborhood. IAH (Houston Intercontinental) is in a more remote location but is nothing to write home about. Just want anyone sailing from Galveston the first time to be aware.

You don't indicate which airport IAH or Hobby. If you can, spend your night in Galveston and enjoy the area,  The area around Hobby is "questionable"! Check out Galveston.com for hotel info.

HOU is mentioned in first sentence.

There is a Marriott at the IAH airport. Not too expensive. We are staying there the night before and then taking cruise ship transfers to the ship.

What do people think of the Webster/Clear Lake area?  The hotels there look nice and seem to be an affordable option (Galveston isn’t really affordable in the Summer). Is any one hotel in that area highly recommended?

The DoubleTree is a half mile from Hobby and they have a free shuttle from the airport. There is a restaurant on property as well as a bar. Its a nice hotel, not great, but for a night works great. We are using it again this week.

Stayed in the Hampton Inn, Webster probably a dozen times. Its a typical Hampton Inn, but it close to lots of restaurants (good bbq not far away), has the usual Hampton inn breakfast and is typically priced right.
