Passport required for ports?

Hello! I am a bit confused on this information. My passport renewal is delayed and I am unsure if it will arrive in time. Traveling in a couple of weeks on Carnival out/in Miami, FL and ports of call are Aruba, Bonaire, Amber Cove/LaRomana. I know I don't need a passport in Miami, and it seems I don't any any of these ports, but it is unclear and the Carnival rep told me to research. Any feedback much appreciated!

You don’t need a passport.

Assuming you're a US citizen you can take your cruise with an official birth certificate and government-issued photo ID such as a drivers license in lieu of a passport. None of the ports on your itinerary require you to take a passport ashore. When going ashore you'll need the ship's room key card that you'll receive when you check in at the pier in Miami and your photo ID.

In port, correct. However, to board the ship you either need a official, raised seal type birth certificate AND a government issued photo ID, or a passport.

FYI some states do not use a raised seal on their BCs. As long as it's an official government-issued BC, as opposed to a hospital-issued certificate, it's valid.
