gizmodog Posted February 11, 2023 #76 Share Posted February 11, 2023 Peconolady, how did you arrange your trip to the falls after the cruise or did you just take the ships tour? I am trying to arrange one and am having such a hard time with flight times, also trying to arrange a pick up at the cruise terminal. thank you

I am trying to arrange one and am having such a hard time with flight times, also trying to arrange a pick up at the cruise terminal. thank you I used a travel company called 01;Argentina Travel Agency. pablo@sichitours dot com. Www.01argentina dot com is their website They packaged the whole tour. Air tickets, hotel (1 night falls view room at the Melia Iguazu Resort with breakfast), transfers, one days guide. $500 pp US. Paid in advance by credit card. We left early in the morning the day after disembarking the ship. We spent a night at the Park Sheraton hotel where we left our luggage for the time we were gone. it was a leap of faith using them, but everything worked out fine, the local guide was great and stayed in touch with the airline for changes and escorted us to and from the Iguazu airport. I highly recommend them! The hotel was fantastic and the view was amazing, food was good and very cheap once the blue rate was applied. We spent our second day ( flight back to Buenos Aires did not leave until nighttime) revisiting the falls and hanging out in the beautiful infinity pool. We could have opted to go to the Brazil side but decided to just have a relaxing day at the hotel, swimming, watching toucans in the trees and snoozing and reading in a lounge chair poolside.

Can you explain a bit more about how you got the blue rate applied to your food? Was this cash or credit card? I'm hoping the recent change with Visa/MasterCard using the tourist exchange rate may help. @BlerkOne Since you are traveling now do you have any comments on how you are dealing with the various exchange rates in Argentina? Official, Blue, New Tourist rate by credit card?

Official, Blue, New Tourist rate by credit card? I don't think twice about the exchange rates. Sometimes I use peso, or dollars, or charge to Mastercard and have even used American Express. I don't plan on buying much or spending much. Personally it seems too much like work to figure out and I don't see the return as being worth anything. I know some people like the challenge - I'm not one of them. 2

Official, Blue, New Tourist rate by credit card? The exchange rate is automatically applied by the credit card company.when they post to your account. We used our Visa or Mastercard most of the time, only using American Express for our Buenos Aires hotel expenses ( room cost was on points). We were on land in Argentina for 8 days. The blue rate is a pain to constantly keep figuring out. We just gave up and ordered and bought what we wanted, i changed over $200 US at a cambio on Florida St ( easy peasy, it was in a small mall, just walk up to a window, hand over your cash and they hand you back a huge wad of monopoly money bills. No paperwork involved. No street side hawker needed) We used that throughout the whole land and many cruise ports and still had a little left over. Used for taxis, some entrance fees, souvenirs, snacks, lunches and little treats. Food costs are ridiculously low in BA, , whether paid via cc or cash.
Rare BlerkOne Posted February 11, 2023 Author #86 Share Posted February 11, 2023 Taxi from the hotel to port was 2000 pesos. Is that good or bad? The correct answer is I don't care. There is shipping at the port for all kinds of junk including tee shirts! 3 for $30. Close enough to be disposable. Now all I need to find is a decent penguin tee shirt for a present. If nothing else I'll find one one Amazon. 😉

Rare BlerkOne Posted February 11, 2023 Author #89 Share Posted February 11, 2023 On the ship! Had a double shot coffee - that should keep me going for a while. Did muster - very easy. Luggage made it to my cabin. After I unpack some, I think it's Happy Hour.

Compare and contrast to the sluggish ship Internet which doesn't like anything. But it gets the job done, eventually, for now. 🙂 I do have other options for anywhere with land based cell service (aka ports).
