Rare BlerkOne Posted February 21, 2023 Author #203 Share Posted February 21, 2023 Most of the vehicles appear to be Land Rovers that do these excursions, but there was an assortment of others. When on road, all seem to take the same road but offroad, the trails seem to be just a suggestion and new trails seem to be encouraged.

The ship doesn't go far enough south to see Emperor penguins. I was on a private tour.

I did, but the Magellanic penguins were far down the beach from where visitors are allowed to go.

PurpleTraveller Posted February 21, 2023 #216 Share Posted February 21, 2023 I have been following along, reading your wonderful review. Thank you for taking the time from your cruise to post your journey. Your Volunteer Point penguin photos are fabulous and bring back very happy memories of my excursion there in 2018 while on my Princess cruise. I remember walking around with a big smile as I was having such a great time walking around and observing the penguins. Thanks again! 🐧🐧🐧 1

I went through a broker, but wanted to make sure I had something. I think about $240. Some were reluctant to allow a booking for one person. The ship wanted over double. It is about a 2 hour drive each way and about 2 hours at Volunteer Point

On our Jan 2024 Princess Sapphire Antarctica cruise, they’re asking $420 for this 7-hour excursion to Volunteer Point.
ColoradoCruiser88 Posted February 22, 2023 #221 Share Posted February 22, 2023 We had booked with Patrick Watts for our Jan. Oceania cruise. Unfortunately we could not tender because of weather. He charges $190 usd for the Volunteer Point excursion. Payable in cash on the day of. So if you don’t make it, no refunds necessary.

I went with Patrick in 2010. We were late in and I emailed him. He already knew. In 2019, I sent my friends with him and I did his shorter tour to Gypsy Cove outside Stanley, because I didn't want to take one of the limited slots. I know he can now only take 12 cars. When I went in 2010, it was limited by how many driver he could get.
Rare BlerkOne Posted February 22, 2023 Author #223 Share Posted February 22, 2023 A little less than $200 is probably typical. Volunteer Point is privately owned and the family does limit the number of visitors allowed. I imagine they make lots of money off of their cut. In addition, they have thousands of sheep for additional income
