What is opened upon embarkation on the Joy?

Wondering when you first come aboard, are the bars open? Any restaurants open beside the buffet and do you know their hours? Our cruise is only one week away! So excited!

Taste, Savor, The Local and American Diner will be open for lunch as well as the Haven restaurant for Haven passengers.   The American Diner is not a free dining venue except for Haven passengers for lunch on embarkation day.

When we boarded, they gave us a paper with information on which places were open for lunch and times.  I remember one of the smaller, complimentary dining rooms (Taste and Savor) was open as was the buffet.  Have a great cruise!

Keep in mind the taste and savor is only open from like noon-1:30

With the drinks package we had (dont know if they are all the same but they probably are) we had to pay a 10% surcharge on drinks in port. So for my $9.00 glass of wine I paid 92 cents

NO WAY I would pay that just to have a drink when I finally made it on the ship. 😡

All ships on all cruise lines charge a tax on drinks served at American embarkation and American ports of call ports.

The alternative is to go dry and not take advantage of your drinks package until you are out in international waters in the evening.

That' what I think! We exercise our drink package from embarkation to disembarkation.

That was part of the joke.  I've often thought that if I have to tell somebody that it was a joke, it must not have been very funny.  But, sometimes I wonder.....🤣

 

But seriously, those port taxes never add up to much of anything (and, contrary to other posters' opinions, I can assure you that I take FULL advantage of every minute of the beverage package).
