Getting off the ship in Mykonos - Celebrity Constellation

I've been watching a few videos of the areas we will be stopping on our cruise in October.  (First cruise)  One of the videos about Mykonos said that they were not allowed to leave the ship unless they booked an excursion with Celebrity.  Admittedly, this was a year old and may have been a COVID thing.  Is that really the case?  Or was that a COVID thing that's gone now?  We don't really have any interest in the ships excursions, but we do want to get off the boat to explore a little.  TIA.

I was on a celebrity cruise in 2018.  We got off the ship and did our own thing.  Wandered a bit then took the bus to the beach.

I’ve been to Mykonos numerous times, not once have we done a ships excursion

That may have been a COVID thing but if so, it is no longer true. I was on Constellation last fall when she called in to Mykonos. Absolutely no issue with going ashore on your own.

 

You may already realize that on Mykonos docking is limited, so depending on other ships, you may dock or you may tender. Tendering will drop you off right in the middle of Mykonos town. If you dock, there are shuttles that will take you to the edge of the town. It's not a long walk, but it is generally hot, dusty, and there is no sidewalk. There is also the option to take a short boat ride from the dock to the town for a couple of euros.

Thanks all!!  I was hoping that was the case, but wanted to be sure.  We've already picked the places we want to do excursions and the places we just want to hope off the ship for a little bit.  Appreciate the feedback!
