Visa card coverage or Cruise line insurance

I just canceled my Princess Platinum insurance and thinking of just going with my credit card insurance. My comparison:

#1 Cruise Fare is 906, insurance was 72.48, covered under USAA credit card

#2 Cruise Fare is 4348, insurance was 345.03, 3K at risk.

#3 Cruise Fare is 1938. Insurance was 155.04, 438 uncovered so 282.96 at risk

I could buy USAA insurance on #2 but that's from LA. Just down the 101 a few hours. Must decide by end of month

Taxes,  fees, port expenses should be refundable anyway.

That $500,000 is for Travel Accident in case you get killed or lose a limb. I did not see any medical coverage. Do you have other adequate medical coverage?

I have an HMO so no ... not outside USA. Is there a better way than the cruise line policy or do I just ante up the 8% of cruise fare??

In that case, medical costs represent your greatest risk. Ideally you’d have more coverage than the $20,000 offered in the Princess plan.

There are excellent annual plans like GeoBlue, but GeoBlue does not include cancellation so it depends on whether you are willing to accept the risk for cruise #2, assuming the credit card would cover the other two if you cancelled for a covered reason.

Since you have to decide soon, consider calling Trip Insurance Store. Let them help you explore/evaluate other options.

Hi Ombub,

You will want to find out from your credit card if they cover pre-existing conditions. I haven't seen a credit card that does cover them, but it's worth asking.
