Best Zipline/Snorkel in Roatan/Cozumel/Costa Maya

Going to Roatan/Costa Maya/Cozumel on RCI in April because my 14-yr old daughter wants to snorkel (she has never been) and I loved West Bay Beach in Roatan that I went to many years ago.  She also wants to zipline though, so I'm trying to figure out how to best use the three stops to do what. Priority #1 is good snorkeling experience and #2 is zipline.

1. Is the zipline at Chankanaab open right now?

2. How do these ziplines compare: Awesome Flight Cozumel/Eco-Park Cuzam (Cozumel)/Chankanaab (Cozumel)/South Shore Zipline (Roatan)/PIrates of the Carbbean Canopy (Roatan)?

3. If Roatan is the best stop for zipline AND snorkeling, how to do best do both?

4. Is West Bay Beach getting too crowded to snorkel at?  Anywhere else in Roatan better?  Recommendations for a good snorkel excursion company?

5. Is it better to make our way to these places on our own or reserve now and sign up with an excursion company (I won't do through cruise ship though)?

Howdy @Spencer71 and welcome to Cruise Critic and your first post on the message boards!

Thank you for your new thread on the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum! However, your thread is off topic here. The forum is for technical assistance in using these message boards

The Cruise Critic website and our message boards are a great resource for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for the various forums. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following stated in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

In your case, please go to the Scuba and Snorkeling forum for snorkeling information. As for your various ports of call, you will need to go to the Ports of Call forums for your various ports. Browse through the thread titles looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. If not, please feel free to post your question in the proper forum.

Please remember, anytime you need to start a new thread/topic on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will reply to you.

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning only one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry as that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you.

The specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your line, ship and sail date will be the place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before your cruise. Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, there may be excursion or transportation share requests to save money already posted in the Roll Call thread that you might want to join.

To explain our Roll Call threads and finding the Roll Call thread for your line, ship and sail date, please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. Since you do not mention your RCI ship and sail date, I cannot direct you to the existing Roll Call thread for your cruise if one already exists.

For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the Guidelines. We also have the following Cruise Critic article you might enjoy: 8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call

And don't forget, after your cruise be sure to submit your review for publication by Cruise Critic. Many cruisers will benefit from your experience! See How To: Submit a Member Review.

So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope all this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. Glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

Welcome to CC.

Going on your own may be more flexible and sometimes cheaper.

I haven't been to the one in Cozumel, but look into Snuba in Cozumel.    It is a cross between scuba and snorkeling and no certification is required.   There will be something floating on the surface with equipment on it, then there will be long air hoses dangling with mouth pieces on the end.  So it is like snorkeling without the bother of returning to the surface.   The Cozumel place allows you to hang out afterward and snorkel as long as you want.

There aren't many places that do that.  We did the one in Destin, FL to introduce DD to scuba.   Apparently that is a fairly normal thing.   A family shows up and at least one parents have well-used scuba goggles.
