Have they ever upgraded you on board, free or with upcharge?

For those who received a complementary upgrade before the cruise, how long before the cruise did you get the upgrade?

My first  YIN to YCD  was a good 6 months prior but that was because they switched ships and I don't remember if the new ship has YIN?

2nd time was on Seaview during covid. They changed port of embarkation and debarkation and I was B2B and fully paid. They did this probably 4 months out. While checking on the sailing to make sure they did not do something else, we discovered the upgrade.

First cruise with MSC coming up in December on the Seaside.  Booked two Ocean view rooms and just got an email today that they assigned us Deluxe Balconies.  Loving MSC so far! 🙂

Keep in mind they can take them back before sailing.

They could also downgrade you to an inside cabin. Rare but downgrades do happen.

Oh ok thanks.  I wont get my hopes up then.

That has only happened when MSC charters out the entire Yacht Club after one previously has a YC cabin and is offered a refund and does not accept refund, they were downgraded to a cabin outside the YC. Which is still a terrible thing to do considering loyalists book well in advance for specific dates and find out too late to make other arrangements on other lines that are sold out.

Ive stated many times here on MSC…book a gty OV and your chances of an upgrade to balcony is pretty good.  When I first book Seaside for 2019 I looked at the deck plans.  At that time the cabins were designated Bella and Fantastica.  There were 80 OV cabins, half Bella and half Fantastica.  And over 1300 balconies.  Given that some folk will book specific OV cabins, I felt a Fantastica gty OV might get me an upgrade.  And it worked.  Now, I am fine with an OV, but my sister liked to sit out on the balcony and read.
I again booked Seaside in 2023, again booked OV Fantastica gty, and got the upgrade.
My advice to anyone booking MSC is to check the amount of cabins in each category.  There are always a ton more inside cabins than OV, so if you can stretch the budget above an inside to an OV gty, you just might get that free upgrade.  EM

You are in error, I was not offered a refund and had to get an attorney to facilitate a refund since we were under 30 days

Secondly I had it happen again last year on the Seaview in April.

 Downgrade from YCGS to YCDS.

Thirdly it happened in 2023 for a family cruise that involved almost a dozen YC cabins (all that connected)

Resulted in a full cancellation of all bookings by us once we caught it prior to final.

And finally, almost happened again for a 2025 cruise on the Seashore that shows how crappy parts of their operation are. Booked while on a ship, transferred to TA, while on the ship and the TA was on the ship with us. TA fixed it.

I stand corrected.

Are you by any chance a tall, isolated object on MSC's radar?

"Lightning can strike the same place multiple times, especially tall, isolated objects.."
