lissie Posted February 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2023 One of Boston's main access points to the airport is closed this summer Sumner Tunnel Restoration: Project details and closure schedule | Mass.gov Wondering what this will do to travel times to the airport and whether we'd be better getting a train rather than an uber from the cruise terminal to Logan? Rare 1025cruise Posted February 26, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2023 One would not be using the Sumner Tunnel to go from the airport to the cruise port, or the other way. I flew back to Logan the first weekend last year when the Sumner was closed. It took me an hour to get from the parking garage to the Ted William tunnel. It should have taken 10 minutes, max. With that being said, it's really a straight shot from the port to the airport. I wouldn't be too concerned, just make sure you have enough time. The only direct public transportation would be the Silver Line, which is a bus and would be stuck in the same traffic.

Isn't there a ferry from the cruise port or nearby to Logan, if needed to avoid road traffic?
marys350 Posted February 27, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2023 (edited) I believe that the ferry runs between the airport area and Long Wharf or Rowes Wharf. https://www.mbta.com/stops/Boat-Logan https://www.mbta.com/guides/ferry-guide Edited February 27, 2023 by marys350
Rare Rubyfisch Posted February 27, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2023 The tunnels have been a mess during the closures this year, regardless of which way you are trying to go. In my experience, it's probably added 20ish minutes leave the airport heading home - I haven't been traveling to the airport when they are closed. The most obvious public transit from the Seaport to the Airport is the SL1, which unfortunately uses the same tunnels as cars.
