Not sure whether to exchange some money into Peruvian Sol for our upcoming cruise. …and if so how much ?

If cruise goes to plan we shall have three days in Peru. Wondering is USA dollars are accepted.

Do NOT want to use ATMs but will have credit cards without transaction fees.

Is anyone able to offer information on recent experience please ??

Many thanks.

I was in Lima and Southern Perú for four days in December last year. I never bought a sol, and everyone was happy to accept tips in US dollars. Absolutely everything else I put on a credit card.
I had a private guide, Ernesto. He was very affordable and extremely knowledgeable. He was recommended to me by a retired Cal State university professor who was a guest lecturer on a Regent ship I was on.

I would be happy to provide additional details to anyone interested. I did post a review on this forum after my return. My contact information is in my signature.

We went to Cuzco and Machu Picchu and found it necessary to get Sols for tips.  Outside the urban areas, US dollars are not as acceptable as perhaps in Lima.  We used the ATM in the airport without any problems.
