Observations of recent Enchanted Princess cruise

My husband still has his suit which he bought around 30 years ago and hasn't worn in over 20 years. The last time he wore it was on a Princess cruise around 2000 and it hangs in the closet collecting dust.

I'm not so certain what the reason is why Princess no longer cares about how people dress, but it's comforting to know that we can dress casually from now on but I do suspect the main reason is $$$.

At 5 PM when it was empty, it did feel chilly.

Especially in the show lounge at 7 PM upper level, the air cond. was blowing up a storm to stay ahead of the expected crowd.

That’s interesting. I’m usually cold but it felt pretty good in Santorini. I think you mentioned you eat early? I wonder if they cool the MDR way down before they open for dinner. We went around 7:30 most nights

My husband speculated the same when I mentioned this thread.  We went to dinner between 7:30 and 8, and to the 9:30 shows.  All that hot food and all those warm bodies must have warmed things up!  This would be a good tip for people who are flexible on times, and hot or cold natured.

I was also on the Enchanted at that time and thought it was one of our best cruises with Princess. The staff was terrific. Beyond the smoke problem in the casino, it was exceptional.

The Retreat Pool was crazy windy! I couldn’t spend enough time there to notice the music.

One miscellaneous thing I noticed was that there were a fair number of people dancing in the piazza in the early evening before dinner. More than I usually see. The jazz band in Take Five also seemed really popular.

Was the Retreat pool windy on the top deck or by the pool? I was hoping the new layout with cabins surrounding it would help with the windiness we found on the Royal and Regal.

When we were on the Enchanted on 2/7-2/17 at the meet and greet one of the officers said that when they go to dry dock they are addressing the cigarette smoke smell from the casino. Don't know when that will be but will be interested to see what they do. It was pretty bad on our cruise.

We actually thought it was less windy up top than by the pool itself.  We spent every afternoon up there and found it very comfortable.  The lower area seemed to make a wind tunnel effect.  But it was fully occupied most of the time, so obviously not a deal breaker.

It's a design built into a royal class ship although I didn't mind it at all.

It plagues all of them.

Someone posted here on this board that they intend to put doors on the casino to keep the smoke from traveling into the Piazza.

I guess it'll make the casino even more smoky. From my perspective it's one of the worst Royal class ship casino's for that problem.

They have no choice really considering that more than half of American men don’t even own a suit much less a tuxedo. Unless they go back to offering tuxedo rental onboard, a large percentage of their male passengers are unable to comply with the formal night dress code of tuxedo or dark suit.

What percentage of those no longer own pants?

It was incredibly windy by the pool. So windy that chairs that weren’t in use were being put away by deck attendants one day

What are your thoughts on the menu's in the main dining room?

Me?  Disappointed.  They had better offerings in the buffet.

Jay

We ate in the MDR 3 times and that was because of what was offered. I don’t know that the menu isn’t as good as it once was but I found less that appealed to me.
We really liked the salad variety in the buffet much better.

The only problem we had this trip was trying to get off the ship in Ft. Lauderdale.  We always self disembark.  I have never had this issue before, but we could not get an elevator at 7:30 a.m.  Two of the four forward elevators were "reserved" and not available for use.  After 15 minutes of waiting on the other two, which were always full of people riding up to the top with their luggage just to go down, we decided to try the midship elevators. Two of the six were also reserved - the other four were always full.  After 15 minutes, we gave up and carried our luggage down from deck 15 to deck 6.  After that we were in a cab to the airport in less than 10 minutes.

We used the aft elevators. Only problem is you have to get off on 7 as they only go to Amalfi on 6.
No wait, had to carry bags down 1 flight from 7 to 6. If you can do that it sure beats waiting!

That’s a great question. I bet if you Google long enough you’ll find that someone has an answer! 😉

My husband has 3 pairs of long pants. 1 pair of dress pants he no longer uses, 1 pair of older jeans used only on special cooler occasions during Feb only and 1 pair for nights in the Princess dining rooms. 😁
