So they exchange 20.00 in 2.00 bills and get a 20 back. What the problem in tracking that ? Lol. and pocket 200.00 in other cash. 🤷🤷🤷 rgr by forcing their hand for no good reason except it makes you feel good? Come on. I bet they laugh how all these cruisers give them $2 thinking it's special... The cruising industry... Keeping $2 bills alive in 2023.
jeh10641 Posted March 16, 2023 #232 Share Posted March 16, 2023 I received a $2 bill as a gift recently and am saving it for a special occasion. I like the idea of having a bunch of them for tips on a cruise. Ship personnel can go into a U.S. bank when in port if they want to convert them. I have never had a problem with $2 in retail stores.

If they don’t like 2.00 bill why are they giving them out to cruisers ????? and yeah they laughed all the way to the bank. Doesn’t make me feel good. It’s saves me space in my pocket. I wouldn't think that the people that receive cash tips would be allowed off in US ports because they are busy on turnaround day. Also, according to a previous post on this thread, banks don't perform such services for non-account holders.

I've only received a $2 bill once in my life from my grandmother when I was little which I still keep in my wallet... Not as money but for luck! So weird lol... Look the best way to settle this is to ask every crew member you meet if they prefer $2 or 2x$1. Then if they tell you $2 then give it to them lol. Otherwise you are just forcing it on them cause it's better than no tip.

I would bet they mostly use the ships bank at whatever fees they charge. Of course they would use the ships bank to some degree and to be fair maybe that's where they throw all the $2s and keep other bills for spending at ports or otherwise. I recently went into a bank and tried to get change and they refused because I did not have an account. In any case why would you want to make crew find a bank when in a US port.
