Bringing Food (ginger candy) on board

The Virgin FAQ says we are not allowed to bring food on board without special clearance. What if I want to bring some candies/crystallized ginger for sea sickness? Does anyone here have experience with this? Does it have to be a brand new sealed bag? I’m going on a few cruises and would prefer not to buy a new bag each time.

No problem at all.  A friend just brought a bunch of hot sauce for her relative who was also sailing....she got sent to the "naughty room" because they thought it was alcohol, but let her go as soon as they saw what it was.
