Yet another upgrade offer question

Got the upgrade offer email for our June cruise.  Lowest bid to go from premium balcony to mini suite is the same price difference as if I were to call Princess and just pay the difference over the phone ?

What is the benefit of bidding on something when you can just call and buy it for the same price?

I don't see any benefit for you on this. I see benefit for Princess, since many/most people who bid will bid more.

I got to chime in here.  I should keep a list of Princess' misnamed phrases.

 

Upgrade USED TO MEAN...free/complimentary move from a lower category to a higher category.  Not necessarily to a cabin that the passenger deems better, but Princess thinks is an upgrade.

 

Upsell USED TO MEAN...paying extra to move to a better cabin.  (as in bidding)

 

When did Upgrade and Upsell become interchangeable?
