As recently as last month (Feb 2023) we were able to just show up for check in. The assigned times are really now treated more of suggestions and not being enforced as they once were. You will be given a new group number was you check in.

Depends on your departure port. Last month in Auckland, we were able to drop our bags off but told to return closer to our appointed time-which was about 2 hours later. We returned in about 1-1/2 hours and entered but we were asked 3 different times about our check-in time. It was quick with Verifly.

In San Diego in January, we were able to drop off our luggage, go through checking our papers, do the carry on baggage screening, and check-in, only to be sat waiting in the “pen” for our group letter and time to be announced.  We had to wait for about 50 minutes before boarding.  We arrived early only because that was the only time the hotel shuttle was going.

so it really seems to be port specific as all the recent trips out of Ft Lauderdale and Vancouver (Oct 22) have been very much  checkin time ignored.

We were on the NS February 25th sailing out of Port Everglades.  We were assigned a 1:20 p.m. boarding time for 3 pm sailing.  We arrived around 11:00 a.m. (we needed to return our rental car by 11 a.m.)  We were given a boarding group card after we checked in at the pier.  We were able to board as soon as our group was called which was shortly after 11 30 a.m.
