I'm not sure that's true in the US. I just did a self-initiated upgrade on HAL and I paid the sale price, not the price it would have been when I booked. I don't know if Cunard has different rules.

Do you think we'll be approached on the next sailing? How soon?

Sailing Beginning of March 2025.

In a Brit Club cabin now. Did give ok for upgrade consideration.

Did enjoy & appreciate Grat Upgrade last time to PG.

Bev thinking how to handle.

Heading to CM tomorrow for 5 days for needed R&R...

In my experience, offers came a few weeks after final payment.

 

For last year's Northern Lights cruise on QV, not much availability, so not much hope. I did bid, but didn't get it. I can't remember when they told me that, but I think it was fairly late. 

 

For QA, the offer came a few days after I booked, but I booked after final payment, so I had paid in full when I booked.  Acceptance was quick, about a week. I'm not sure the ship ever sold out, which still surprises me, given that it was the naming cruise. 

 

For QE this summer, I didn't bid because I was booked in PG and the minimum bid for QG was more than I wanted to spend. 

 

I think the bid up process will greatly reduce the number of free upgrades they will give.

We received an upgrade offer after final payment. Since then 2 further reminders, the last a couple of days ago. (same offer). We sail 18 October, 30nights and have a P1 and the offer is for QG the full range. They set the minimum and maximum and the same offer is made to P1 and P2. We won't be taking it up, the cabin we have booked is one we have had before and like it. We have previously travelled in QG and PG.

I am considering an upgrade bid but want to make sure I understand all the ins and outs first.

 

Am I correct in understanding that a successful bid for a PG does not include the drinks package (the up to $12 per drink program)?

 

What about dining? Do those who win an upgrade bid eat in the PG dining room? Same question for a successful bid on a Britannia Club?
 

My apologies if these questions have been covered here or elsewhere and my search just wasn’t good enough to find the information.

@Carnevale - I wouldn't expect any promotion to be available with an upgrade unless explicitly stated as part of the bid and as for dining, you eat in the restaurant assigned to the cabin grade, so would eat in the Princess Grill dining room in your example

We were upgraded by Cunard to Britannia Club and had a table in the Britannia Club Restaurant and we also got caffee pods and the 2x 0,5 l bottles of water dayly from our steward

Nor will you get the extra PG OBC vs your original booking. Ask for it however.

Also, if booking directly through Cunard, ask them for Grats to be covered under US Grills promo. If the rep says no respond with “Oh, that’s very disappointing since I’m paying up for this upgrade”. They may through some extra OBC your way to make you happy if you politely grumble. I politely grumbled on the recent booking and it worked for me. Good luck!

I did get the drinks package when I bid up from Britannia to PG. I don't remember if I got grats, too.

Interesting! Was that recently? Getting drinks included makes it much more tempting to bid but if there’s a chance drinks are not included then we will not bid.

I found my final statement. I did not get drinks and grats. (Sorry to get your hopes up--I was confusing it with my QE cruise where I booked PG to start with). The only OBC I got was from my Carnival stock. My original booking was after final payment ("sailing soon") so it had no perks to begin with. This was QA in May.
