so far I can honestly say I am not tired of cruising, but then again it has only been 8 cruises for me.

I am going to cut my cruising down to 1-2 a year after my cruise on the valor.
thinking of going back to land vacations for the fill in.

you know the Surf/Turf of vacationing...LOL

I understand completely!! I too am suffering from this. After our last cruise on the Legend it seemed they were doing the same old activities, shows seemed boring. I think too I get tried of the cattle drive getting on and off the ship at port and having to hurry in ports to see and do what I want.

I told my husband I need a cruising break. Next year we might go sailing with his brother in the Carribean (ok, that crusing I can handle) or if not that we're thinking of going to Hawaii (the Big Island) and stay for a week.

On the other hand, we have a discount to use with Carnival so maybe we will do something, maybe a short cruise.

4/2003 HAL Statendam/Sea of Cortez
9/2002 CarnivalHoliday/Western Caribbean
4/2001 Carnival/Western Caribbean
4/2000 Carnival Paradise/Southern Caribbean
5/1999 RCCL/Alaska
4/1998 NCL/Pacific Coastal
10/1997 Carnival/Mexican Riviera
11/1995 Carnival Holiday/4 day Baja Mexico
6/1992 RCCL Viking Serenade/4 day Baja Mexico
6/1981 Pacific Princess/Pacific Coastal

Somehow I don't think that the group will let you miss that one Sue.

I think trying the different lines will make the difference for me. I would like to spend a week down in St. Maarten though. What a great place.

Sandra,

Just completed my 28th CARNIVAL Cruise on board the Triumph (8-15th May)......ALL SINCE '95!

Last year I decided to cruise both Princess (Star) and RCCL (Explorer of the Seas) and found the "change" invigorating (especially when you consider that I am a 'true' Carnival Cruise-a-holic).......

Now the CHANGE was worth the extra dollars on both these cruise-lines with NEW menus, NEW CD's, NEW layout of ships, NEW shows / entertainment etc.)!

Your fellow cruisers are actually the same you find on CCL......so I suggest you go on the Mariner in September (she is an awesome ship....and nothing like what you have seen on Carnival)!

That's my 2 bucks worth!

Sandra, don't feel bad. Funny you brought this up, I've been feeling the same way lately. Don't know if it's cruise burnout or what because I really love cruising. Personally for me when I don't feel that giddy excitement anymore, it's time to make a change. It's not that I don't like Carnival, but I'm getting tired of the Caribbean too. I'm ready for a new cruiseline and an itinerary I've never sailed on before. I want to get back to one of the original reasons I started cruising which was to experience places I've never been to before. I've been seriously thinking about Alaska for summer 2005 on Princess. I've taken a 5 year break from cruising because I feel cruise vacations are very limited if you REALLY want to experience another culture or get away from the "well trampled" tourist beat. Not to be preachy, but I think one reason Americans have such a limited understanding of how other people in the world think and feel is because they really don't make any effort to get to know them when they visit. They make no effort to learn the language and tend to stay in standardized resort hotels - where the only locals you interact with are your hotel staff.

For a real adrenalin adventure try a 3 week camping safari in Africa - I came face to face with an elephant while peeing in the bushes early one morning (there was no toilet) and I'll never forget it, hehe! If you want to stay on the water, try a few weeks in Turkey with one week of that on a fetiyah (small boat) going down the coast. Israel is an incredible place to see and I got invited to visit a Palestinian refugee camp which gave me a whole new perspective on the situation there. Actually staying on Caribbean Islands with the locals (like a B & B) and making friends, experiencing the culture on a day to day basis is far more fun than spending one day rushing through the island. I spent a summer in Jamaica and many locals used to be somewhat contemptuous at the overweight, pale tourists rolling off the cruise ships for their "day" in Jamaica. The feeling is that these tourists are often scared of the people living there and would just as soon have no contact. The best vacations are those were you take a little risk as the rewards tend to be much greater.

Believe me, I love cruising too but it's NOT traveling. It's a safe, hassle-free vacation where you see a tiny bit of the world, usually on carefully guided tours. I would definitely try something different - and I don't mean an all-inclusive resort which is essentially the same as a cruise.

quote:
I think am suffering from "Cruising Burnout". After 18 or so cruises

Once a year cruise should be fine anything more than that will tend to add to the cruise burnout syndrome.

I've been cruising AT LEAST 4 times a year for the past 30 years..so I can't even count them anymore. Sometimes I get off a cruise and think it's the last one, but that's always worn off before the next one.

I think it also depends on WHY you cruise. I've been to every port in the Carribbean so many times that I know I just go for the sailing on the water and the royal treatment on the ship.

What I do is take a land vacation or 2 on the months that I'm "in port"...that cures me from not wanting to cruise again!

Wow...... I have been feeling the same way since we returned home from our April Pride cruise. I love to cruise, but I am not excited at all about booking another one. Oh, when will it pass?
I had thought about trying a different line, but I have a discount available thru Carnival and would not want to waste it.
I think I need professional help as part of me doesn't even care if I read these boards 20 times a day like I did prior to my cruise.
Maybe we should form a group cruise and call it "The Burntouts" That way we can all encourage each other into getting back into the wonderful life we know that cruising offers, after all.... if you're not a cruiser, you're a loser!

Gee, I wish I could cruise often enough to experience burnout. I start wanting another cruise on the drive home from the last one. I do take 3 non-cruise vacations each year which really keeps me appreciating the luxury of cruising. Maybe my expectations are low since my favorite thing on a cruise is to sit on my balcony and watch the sea go by. My next favorite thing is the fact my office can't reach me by phone (first, they'd never pay the almost $10 per minute to call and, second, I wouldn't answer if they did). I hope I never suffer from cruise burnout. My sympathy to those of you who have.
