rcrabb1513 Posted April 18, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2023 Research has led me to Temple Bar area for a good pub for a beer and lunch. Anyone have a recommendation near Templar Bar or elsewhere?
Sundiego Posted April 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2023 Hi there! We spent a number of days in Dublin a few weeks ago. Friends recommended Darkey Kelly's and it did not disappoint! The food was good, the bar prices reasonable. It's by the lobby of the Harding Hotel. Great music later in the day, but sounds like you won't be there past lunch. Temple Bar (the actual bar) is crowded and pricey. Locals don't hang out there. The Temple Bar area can be over-the-top touristy so if that's not your thing, I'd wander away from it. Anyone have a recommendation near Templar Bar or elsewhere? Temple Bar is pretty touristy-- sort of like wandering around Times Square searching for the authentic New York experience. Some great preserved Victorian pubs that are not far away are The Long Hall and The Palace. The Stags Head isn't too far from Temple Bar and is a lot of fun. Further down towards St Stephens Green I have a warm spot in my heart for O'Donohue's Bar which is a great old pub (if not a little dingy). It's not a pub but the Horseshoe Bar at The Shelbourne Hotel is one of Dublin's great watering holes and is worth a trip.

Thank you for saying this. I did want to say something about eating/drinking/visiting Temple Bar, but could not find anything that CC did not blank out. Enough to say....Don't go there!. Long Hall is a great pub. I used to frequent a nearby, but long gone watering hole called 'The Chinaman' at the back of Dublin Castle. The closest The Chinaman got to food was a pickled egg! 🤣 Things have changed, not just the prices.
