Wishing on a star Posted April 19, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2023 We are thinking of booking on the sphere, so that we would have a larger balcony. I wonder if anybody has sailed in a cabin like this, and if being on the forward part of the sphere bumpout could mean issues with wind. It seems like that forward extension of the ship would have to have considerable wind. Thanks if anyone has any insight!

Wishing on a star Posted April 19, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted April 19, 2023 I know! But there are many ships with bumpouts... I know I have seen some fronts with almost gale force winds, but the aft facing areas were more protected.
modes Posted April 19, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2023 It’s a brand new class of ship .
Wishing on a star Posted April 19, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted April 19, 2023 Of course, I do know that. I am not a newbie here. But, forward facing cabins, and forward cabins on bumpouts are common. The IONA, for example, has a very similar rounded bumpout. Not quite as much as the new sphere will be. But similar.
Essex Racer Posted April 19, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2023 Iona and Arvia have larger balconies here - had one on Iona and was great.
Essex Racer Posted April 19, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2023 Sun Princes looks like a different cabin configuration, hopefully comparing balcony sizes on the deck plan will help you choose!!
Wishing on a star Posted April 20, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted April 20, 2023 Yes. 10509 or 10514 would be amazing! We did move to a balcony on the AFT side of the sphere bumpout. Being in the first extend forward facing one seems like it might be sticking your hand out of a car window while moving..
Essex Racer Posted April 21, 2023 #9 Share Posted April 21, 2023 Even the balcony size between 10512 and 19516 is a big difference. We were in 10602 - lovely size balcony
RedEarth Posted April 22, 2023 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2023 I can't imagine the wind on the bump out balconies would be significantly different from any other side-facing cabins one the ship. We sailed in the aftmost cabin on the port side of Lido deck on the Sapphire which is angled outwards to meet the bit where the full height windows around the pool area begin, and there was no problem with wind at all, just a slightly bigger balcony and better views than most other cabins on the side of the ship! InFullertonCA Posted June 9 #12 Share Posted June 9 I'm booked in cabin 12438 and am curious if anyone has balcony images they can share? The cabin is listed as a standard BA Deluxe Balcony, but it is shown on the deck map image as having a slightly larger than normal balcony since it is the last cabin in the sphere. Any balcony shots of 12438, 12435, 12404 or 12403 would be greatly appreciated.

Wishing on a star Posted June 9 Author #15 Share Posted June 9 Thanks! We have a deposit on a similar cabin the first cabin at the front of the sphere. I have been hoping to see something like this.
Wishing on a star Posted June 14 Author #16 Share Posted June 14 (edited) Those photos do not seem to able to be linked here any longer. Anyhow, I see photos of the last (aft) balcony on the sphere, 14438, that seem to show that about 1/3 of the balcony is the standard straight balcony, and then about 2/3 is actually angled out with the sphere. I wish I knew whether some of the balconies that are the first (FWD) balconies are like that... or if they are completely within the sphere. Which would make them slightly larger, and not have that angle with different glass right there on your deck. edited to add: I found a video that shows very clearly.... NO angle on the balcony we are looking at! The ones down on deck 10 and 11 seem to be the largest, and are totally within the sphere.
