We planned this trip well in advance. In fact it was our third attempt to (due to Covid) to do this cruise. I have done the cruise and cruisetour before and it was wonderful. for the $$ we were paying we this would have been a major nightmare to reschedule air. We would have taken the other 5 day cruise tour they offered, but when or agent got back to them on Monday, that tour was full. We were going with our relatives who had never been and the whole thing was becoming very stressful. Sorry to hear that things are not good with labor shortage. I wish Celebrity had told us sooner.

Even if they had told you sooner (and I dont think they knew sooner because this stuff was undoubtedly communicated to Celebrity by their land parters just around the same time as they then told you) the situation would have been the same. If this happens you need to snap up what they offer you immediately and not wait and discuss it. Because hundreds of other people are in the same situation and may be faster with their decision.

As suggested, a DIY tour by rental car could have been an alternative. Depending on how comfortable you are getting around by yourself vs a guided tour.

How did Celebrity handle the refunds for this? You said this cruise was pushed out many times due to Covid, was this a Lift&Shift?

Maybe rebooking to Eclipse or Solstice would have been a better solution as it's a loop cruise.

Why are people continuing to tell the OP about how they should have done independent booking or otherwise handled their situation? They have already addressed why they were not happy trying to do that.

Sometimes it's not about what you're 100% happy with but what is actually possible. So, in this case it's either stay at home or go indy.
