Rare vickykay Posted April 27, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2023 Just wondering how cold it gets at the top of the volcano and suggestions for appropriate clothing. Thanks.
CruiserBruce Posted April 27, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2023 It is quite warm in most places where you will go. The main part of the park is not that high.

Thanks. Kilauea is only 4,000 feet. It’s chilly but I wouldn’t call it cold. We hung out late into the evening in a hoodie and jeans. During the day it was shorts and a hoodie for me because it was misty rain that day. This is the volcano I suspect you are asking about since you mention volcanos national park in the thread title. Side note- At 13,000 feet, the volcanos Moana Kea and Moana Loa are freezing at the top. Literally. Popular tours here are stargazing and they will likely equip you with Arctic wear. KeepCalmBearOn Posted April 27, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2023 The VNP Visitor Center is only, 4,000', unlike the Haleakala National Park Visitor Center, which is close to 10,000', so it is seldom too cold. If you visit in Winter, I might take a sweater/sweatshirt. I would not bother in Summer.
