Bringing wine on board?

Recommended Posts

Going on the Carnival Pride Western Europe cruise leaving July 9. One of us has the Cheers package, and the other does not. (Casino package deal) - Can my husband bring on a bottle of wine in each European port we visit if he wants? Seems rules are different in Europe than USA/Caribbean ports.

Thanks!

I am surprised that two out of two responses have said that there's no issue bringing wine on-board at each port 🤔

Our experience in the Caribbean and multiple cruises elsewhere is that cruise lines we've sailed have limited bringing alcohol on board to one bottle of wine per adult (or two per cabin) at the embarkation port only.

All other alcohol brought aboard, including gifts for folk back home, is secured by ship's security and returned at the end of the cruise.

(P&O used to be the exception, but have now fallen in-line)

We'll be sailing Carnival Pride next month.

If indeed we can take wine aboard at every port, that sadly will be of no value to us.

All our ports are in Norway - where alcohol prices are sky-high, and we had been wondering whether to smuggle alcohol off the ship 😄

@John Bull, I didn't say that. The OP asked, I said it was cruise line policy, not by port. The question would be "What is Carnival's policy?"

Hi Bruce,

Sorry, not directed at you.🙂

The two "responses" (OK, not the correct word) that I was aiming at were the OP's own post and jmwg's.

You're right that policies vary - I had already checked Carnival's website for my own purposes, it's one sealed bottle of wine per adult (21 yrs, I know that some cruise lines reduce the age limit to 18 in Europe) at the embarkation port only.

Also banned from taking aboard anywhere are bottles of soft drinks and water, but an allowance of a dozen cans or cartons and that's a new one on me.

My response is based on my own experience.   Last year we sailed on the pride twice in Europe (Greek isles and Italy).   I purchased wine in several ports and brought it back on board without any question and never had it confiscated.   When sailing in the Caribbean- it is a different story.

I usually do carribean mexico, southeren here in US but when you cruise from Europe they do not take it to the naughty room, I was told this prior from other cruisers didnt believe it but yes I did. Let us no how it goes for you and your family if you decide to do this .       Janet

Thanks for that, Janet.

They allowed a bottle of gin? Or didn't see it?

Was that at Civi, or a port-of-call?

We won't be bringing alcohol aboard at our ports of call - they're all in Norway, where prices are sky-high. 😮

In fact, we're wondering whether to smuggle some of Carnival's over-priced drinks off the ship  🤣🤣🤣
