yoshi Posted May 1, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2023 Can I ask for any positive or negative reviews of a tour in Juneau that. along with some whale/wildlife viewing includes a stop at Orca Point Lodge for some local food? They have another option that includes the above with a stop at the glacier, sounds like a good mix of activities.

yoshi Posted May 3, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted May 3, 2023 Hi Jean, thank you for replying. Celebrity tours were offline when I tried to copy the description, the above snip is from Allen Marine who I assume does the tour independently. The Celebrity description also talked about seeing whales on the boat ride over and there is another option that includes a stop at Mendonhall Glacier. All of the Alaska tours seem so expensive so I want to make sure we are making a good choice.

I don't eat Salmon but my husband does and he liked it. The sides were excellent as was dessert. It was not through Allen Marine for the whales. There was also an option for Mendenhall. We went to Mendenhall on our own in 2022 in the morning via bus that was $20 pp and took us all the way up to Mendenhall parking lot. Then we walked the trail to the falls. We then went back to Juneau and did our afternoon excursion of whale watching and salmon bake. It was a busy day. I was actually a little disappointed in the whale watching as I thought the boats went closer to the whales but we still enjoyed the experience. Was it a nice facility? Sorry about your whale watching experience, we were last in Juneau 17 years ago and had a good whale watching trip but no extras like the Orca Point Lodge meal and Mendenhall visit. Honestly, I'm not sure. I know we took a bus there and it was near Mendenhall. There was gold panning and picnic tables set up with the food being buffet style. There was a little shop inside to buy souvenirs. Edit: Just looked at pictures online of Orca. No, definitely not! That looks much nicer. I liked ours, it was rustic and food was good. That place looks a little more "classier" 🙂 Edited May 3, 2023 by jean87510

I haven't been their myself, but others have said it's a good experience.

steimey Posted May 7, 2023 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2023 We had this booked for Aug 2023 but received updated description. Instead of a salmon bake, they will serve Alaskan seafood and game meat. We canceled.

The "Alaskan seafood and game meat" may be fun to try, my guess if not salmon would be halibut or crab, although I imagine they have so much seafood variety up there. Not sure if the game would be venison or bear???
latebuyer Posted June 1, 2023 #12 Share Posted June 1, 2023 It would be great if someone who attended could post what the meal was like. I found another thread and sounds like orca point lodge is a nice place to go, but no recent reviews of meal.
wolfie11 Posted June 1, 2023 #13 Share Posted June 1, 2023 Selling or serving wild game is illegal in Alaska, so I’m assuming it would be reindeer or elk. Something they can legally farm.
