Galveston Hotel Recommendation to Extend Vacation after 7-Day Cruise Out of Galveston

Recommended Posts

We're looking at a 7-day cruise out of Galveston sometime during the winter of 2024.  Can you recommend a good hotel/resort in Galveston to extend our vacation (perhaps a few days prior to the cruise and a few days after the cruise).  Shuttle service to and from cruise port would be nice, but is not essential to our plans.

Thanks.

The Seawall sites like the San Luis and the resort site like Moody Gardens are great, but since you described a winter visit then check out The Tremont. It's within walking distance the Strand area and is really, really nice. All of the top tier sites like the Galvez and the prior are great to visit, but based on your time go with the Tremont.
Just my opinion!

We loved staying at the Tremont for two days pre-cruise.  Easy to walk all over the Strand area.  Also, we found it easy to roll our bags over to the port and we have been retired for a few years.  (We did see a shuttle leaving from the Tremont, so you could check with them if you require a shuttle.)

We stayed at the Harbor House for one night post cruise.  The rooms are nice.  Free continental breakfast that was okay (cold cereal, yogurt, muffins, etc.).

The hotel does not have a pool but guests were allowed to use the pool at Galveston Hilton (not nearby) and maybe another hotel.  The web site FAQ says there is not a shuttle to the cruise ports but the clerk at the desk told us that there was after I heard a guest asking where to wait for the shuttle (worth a call maybe).   We used Lyft to get from the cruise ship to the hotel.

There is a Galveston Island Trolley stop nearby.  The trolley costs $1 per ride and goes to the beach and pier area; it was operating when we were there on May 1.  Trolleys | Galveston, TX - Official Website (galvestontx.gov)
