No go for zero proof drink at steakhouse?

So, I don't drink alcohol, but was on the Legend and had reservations for the steakhouse and our waitress ask for drinks and my wife ordered hers and I told her I would like a zero proof pirate punch and was told they couldn't make zero proof drinks. I found that a bit odd and didn't ask a million questions why and I left it at that. Has anyone else experience this that doesn't consume alcohol at the steakhouse?

Carnival is carrying Lyre's zero-proof spirits on their ships but I think they are only available at the Alchemy bar.

Could have been a mis-communications situation.

English is my first language and if someone said to me "I would like a zero proof pirate punch", I would be confused as hell. I can only imagine what someone who's English is their second or third language might be thinking.

This! I would've asked if it was possible to get a pirate punch without the alcohol. English is my first language and after living abroad for many years, I've learned that fluency in a language isn't the same as speaking it natively. Therefore, it's helpful to everyone involved to keep things as simple as possible.

It may have been because of your use of the term "zero-proof," which would indicate that you wanted the zero-proof alcohol. Had you requested a "virgin" drink, I think you may have had a different response.

Is "zero proof" a regional term?

Even Urban Dictionary doesn't recognize the term.

I've heard of non-alcoholic, and virgin drinks. Never heard zero proof before this thread.
