PWP-001 Posted May 9, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2023 This is a direct quote from @PhillyFan33579 The entire post reads: There are people behind the scenes that depend on tips to make a decent wage. When you remove gratuities, you are directly impacting these crew members because you can’t tip people you never see. WHO are these people? What positions do they fill? Royal's own breakdown of gratuities specifically mentions -Stateroom Attendant -Dining Room, presumably Waiter, Asst Waiter, Head Waiter No other specific positions are mentioned. Traditionally, in the days before auto gratuities, these were the positions that every cruiser/couple/group in a room was expected to present an envelope to at the end of the cruise with a gratuity. There weren't tip envelopes for "people behind the scenes" because those were employees of the cruise line in support functions that were compensated directly by their employer. And it doesn't seem like that's changed since no other positions are mentioned. So can anyone elaborate?

taglovestocruise Posted May 9, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2023 (edited) From Royal. Each passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise pays a daily gratuity to cover the services of hard working crew members onboard. These gratuities are shared among the dining, bar, and culinary teams, stateroom attendants, and the hotel service team.Mar 17, 2023 So that being said, you are screwing crew when you remove auto tips. In looking for your source, I found a page on Royal's website with a detailed explanation. Apologies for not looking closer before asking here. But thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Case Closed.
