Railfan30 Posted May 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2023 We're sailing on the Joy out of NYC in August. While I've already made our 2 specialty dining reservations, I'd like to switch one to other restaurant. We would also like to make laser tag and go kart reservations too for the kids. My husband and I can divide and conquer once on board. What time should we schedule check-in (if we also want to do a MDR lunch) and where can we make our reservations? hallux Posted May 30, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Get the earliest check-in time that you can, to get an earlier boarding group. Go-karts and laser tag can be booked on any of the touch-screens in the stair/elevator lobbies (2 screens in each lobby on each deck), I believe dining is done at Teppanyaki since you want to change one (could be done on the touchscreen if you just wanted to book one). complawyer Posted May 30, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2023 i would do it as soon as you get on board the ship
ggTexasGal Posted May 30, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Your check-in time might not be as valuable as your "status." Even if you have the earliest check-in time, Suites and Haven, Casino at Sea, Latitudes upper status groups, and Handicap, might very well be able to board ahead of you. Especially, if you are not in any of those categories!
Rare www3traveler Posted May 30, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Your "Check In" time at the pier is totally different than what time you will actually be able to board. I agree with ggTexasGal, your Latitude Status" is more important. MDR's usually open on Embarkation Day about 11:30 A.M. if the ship has been cleared and "Boarding" has begun.

As first time cruisers, we have no status 🙂 I'll aim for an early check-in and see how we fare. @www3traveler - Thanks for the reminder, re: MDR opening times. For insurance, we'll pack a snack for the line in the terminal.
