gumshoe958 Posted June 20, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2023 Easiest - fly. There’s one direct flight a day from Southampton to Paris Orly, on Eastern Airways, perfectly timed for cruisers at around 10:30am. Flight time 1 hour 20 minutes. Otherwise you’re looking at a train, coach, cab or private transfer into London from where the Eurostar train to Paris runs frequently - but total journey time is a minimum of 5-6 hours. Island2Dweller Posted June 20, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2023 As well as the one flight out of Southampton airport, there are also flights out of Gatwick (which can be easily reached from Southampton by direct train) on easyjet or Veuling. All these airlines charge for bags so check allowances and extra charges carefully when pricing up your options
John Bull Posted June 20, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2023 One further option is by ferry from Portsmouth to Normandy, then train to Paris. Probably the cheapest but slowest option, the positives are really for those with the available time & who want to see the Royal Navy city of Portsmouth and its historic dockyard & ships and/or the D-Day sights in Normandy, or to simply explore rural France. Rural France is populated by French people, whereas Paris is full of Parisians - they're almost like two different nationalities, more extreme than the difference between English people and Londoners 😏 Southampton to Portsmouth is 25 miles, about £10 and an hour by train or National Express bus (bus is more convenient because it calls at the ferry/cruise port, "Portsmouth International Port"). Ferries to a choice of Le Havre or Ouistreham (Caen) or Cherbourg, crossing time anywhere between 4 hours & 8 hours depending on which of those Normandy ports and whether by traditional or fast-ferry. Direct trains to Paris from all three https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/ JB 🙂

Once we get into this sort of territory, I wonder whether there might just possibly happen to be some flights from Heathrow to Paris as well? 😉 I suspect that there may be one or two other people heading from the ship to Heathrow on disembarkation day, so some sort of transport should be available. gumshoe958 Posted June 20, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 20, 2023 Any option other than the direct flight from Southampton takes at least five hours once you factor in the journey to London, Heathrow or Gatwick, time to check in for the Eurostar or flight and the journey into central Paris if you fly. The Southampton flight is a no-brainer in terms of time and convenience, although fares can be quite high at weekends.

Most ships offer payable coach transfers to both Heathrow & Gatwick, and at the same or similar cost. Or there's direct public transport - Nat Express coach to LHR, train to LGW, not a huge difference in fares And there'll be passengers fixing up private transfers to either. For flights, treat LHR and LGW as pretty equal, choose the best combination of fares (incl add-ons like luggage), timings, and which Paris airport. Then fix transportation to whichever of LHR & LGW that flight departs from. 10 to 1 cheapest fares will be from Gatwick. JB 🙂
