What's best way to get from Heathrow to South Hampton?

We have always used the National Express coach from Heathrow to Southampton (or the other way). Very easy and convenient, plus it is possible to pay a little extra for having the front seats in the bus.

need to define terms.

what is "best?"

cheapest? quickest? easiest? most comfortable?

This.

What works for some people would be unacceptable for others. For example, many people will take the National Express bus from Heathrow to Southampton which I wouldn’t even consider. I would take the tube into London and then train to Southampton, which others wouldn’t want to do as it involves dragging bags about.

Budget also comes into it. A taxi is a lot more expensive than the bus/train.

Another consideration is whether you want to see anything on the way. It is quite popular to visit places like Stonehenge on the way when using a transfer.

There is no “best”

LHR there are a number of options.

We consider the value/convenience balance gives NE the edge.

National Express all terminals,  from/to T5 is our preferred.

There are no direct train options.

Heading into London is one option takes longer

There is also a train option using a coach transfer to/from Woking that is a bit longer than the direct coach but quicker than any central London options.

Sometimes cheaper than the NE coach

After those  you are into car services and tour options. $$$$

Totally agree with all of this.
The other unknown is the number of people traveling, a pre-booked car/van could easily be the best (certainly most convenient) option if 4 or above people are travelling & costs start to become equal.

Good point

West Quay want £140 for an estate to do 4people/4bags, £170 for a van 6-8/8-10

(if web site up to date)

Much less hassle at Southampton with a car service to the ship or hotel which is worth something.

Also timing easier.

We aim for under £20pp for the NE or train. I think NCL want $75pp for their transfer

(just missed a 30% off deal on NE)

Train/coach station  15-20min walk or under £10 taxi/uber
