resordanis Posted June 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2023 Hi all, Just wondering whether if we book a Carnival cruise can we take any wine on board? If not are drink prices similar to say Royal Caribbean (with conversion) or Princess. Finally does my husband get Military discount? Thanks in advance. By The Bay Posted June 27, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2023 1. Wine. In Australia, they do not allow you to take wine onboard. 2. Military OBC. Not in Australia. They did before COVID. I last received it in 2018 but not this year. They do give you shareholder OBC. 3. Drink prices. These were similar to Princess. No experience with Royal Caribbean. Rare arxcards Posted June 27, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2023 As mentioned, no military OBC for Carnival - anywhere. A military discount is available on selected cruises, but it is very selective, especially in Australia. Just do a dummy booking with and without the military box being checked, and see if there is a price difference, as that is the only way of confirming if that cruise is any cheaper for military (and/or over 55s as well). The military check box was only added to the Aussie site a few months ago.

Hi Cheryle, as stated above yes to a bottle each of wine, corkage of $15AUD if drank in public bar or restaurant, but.....they never came and asked if we were in a bar with the wine, but did charge in the dining room when we took a full bottle in. We haven't cruised Royal this year, but from the prices I have seen, then converting to AUD, Royal would be more expensive. Can compare in October. Bottles of Wine on Carnival from around $35AUD, spirits around $12 to $13 AUD, popular cocktails $16AUD and beers from about $8.50. Prices on par with our Pacific Adventure cruise in January. resordanis Posted June 27, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted June 27, 2023 Thanks all. Just might consider. Unfortunately not many cruises at the moment, so think we will try Carnival. Need to escape the cold weather.

Hi Cheryle if you cruise with Carnival you can’t check in until 14 days before and it opens up at midnight so if you stay up you can pick the first boarding time which is 11.30-12.00 and if things are running smoothly you may board earlier

Wine or champagne beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (18 years of age or older).

Still considering Carnival, also looking at P&O. Carnival slightly in front at this stage though, but it all depends on availability.

Rare cruiser3775 Posted June 27, 2023 #13 Share Posted June 27, 2023 Thanks, HogBay. Some reasonable choices there, but it's a shame about those De Bortoli 'Willowglen' wines at $10.95 glass. That's their bottom of the heap cask quality wine, which you can buy in Australian bottle shops for $5.99 a bottle.

Rare cruiser3775 Posted June 27, 2023 #16 Share Posted June 27, 2023 (edited) You can only buy Willowglen at wholesale prices and quantities in Australia, but it's pretty much the same stuff as this, currently $4.99 bottle, retail price: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_40603/de-bortoli-sacred-hill-shiraz-cabernet You can bet a cruise line isn't paying anywhere near the retail price. You can get a parma and a pot here for $15: https://eatdrinkcheap.com.au/melbourne/springvale-rsl Edited June 27, 2023 by cruiser3775
