Port talks, safety drill

Have not seen many port talks on Oceania   like the main stream lines  where they give you  their "preferred" shops

They usually have a rep from the local tourism dept come onboard   but I would suggest  getting your maps & info ahead of time  & bypass the long line of pax asking where to go & what to see in the port

Thanks, LHT28. I always research the ports. On other lines, port talks haven’t included recommendations for shops but a few times mentioned changes that have been made. So are the lectures televised?

The lectures that are given onboard are replayed on your stateroom TV later and for several days after.  The Muster Drill, at least last Fall, was upon boarding you went to your Muster Station and were checked off their list . When you went to your stateroom your TV was set to the muster drill video and you then watched that .  Your TV would not work for any other functions until the muster drill video had completed.

Oceania newby with two questions: are lectures and port talks available to view on stateroom TV? How is the safety drill accomplished? We’ll be on Regatta in late April.

The safety drills are handled via video to be watched within 72 hours of departure. You will receive email to watch it. When onboard and in room there is a longer version to watch on your tv. Also once on board you just check in at your location provided to you at check in. They mark your name off and done.

There is some sort of port talk/information on the TV but I've never viewed it so don't know anything more than "it exists".

In addition to the safety info above, on our June Regatta cruise the CD came on the speakers (in room included) and did the emergency signal plus gave info...maybe ~5 minutes.

Last March on Regatta, the port talks on the TV was simply a recording of the live port talks given earlier in the Lounge.

As for the CD on the 1MC?  SOLAS requires sounding the alarm.  Common sense requires a "don't sweat it *this* time" announcement in all spaces.
